About

The Rhymers’ Club

The Rhymers' Club, a secret poets' society founded by the renowned Irish poet William Butler Yeats in 1890, held an air of mystery and camaraderie.

This exclusive group of notable literary figures met monthly for dinner in an upstairs room at Ye Old Cheshire Cheese Pub on Fleet Street. Under the flickering candlelight, they gathered around a large table, drinking wine, smoking pipes, and passionately critiquing each other's poetry.

The allure of the club. extended beyond its literary pursuits. Meetings were often scheduled through enigmatic secret handshakes and determined by the roll of a dice, adding an element of intrigue to their gatherings. In this hidden enclave, the members of The Rhymers' Club found inspiration and fellowship, leaving an indelible mark on the world of poetry.

There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met.
